Today’s Stoop Story is about José, a single, gay dad, and his kids, Avery, London and Lilah in #BrooklynHeights. .. “We honor PRIDE by living our truths. We are very open about being an LGBTQ family. We don’t just hang out with other LGBTQ families on PRIDE. Pre-COVID, we were meeting once a month. Every year, I host a Father’s Day brunch for other gay dads. Last year, we had 100 kids and parents. I suppose the only difference is we seem to get more attention around this time of the year. .. Black Lives Matter protests are important to me because until black (and brown people) are treated equally on all levels, no one will be considered equal. I want my kids to understand it’s important to stand up for anyone who is treated less than. .. It’s been hard [coping with COVID]. 126 days, 24 hours around the clock without childcare. I’ve taken on triple duty with teaching, parenting, and working. That said, we’ve made the best of it and have broken up our routines creating TikTok videos. They have resonated with a lot of families during these challenging times and [the videos] have been getting a lot of positive responses. A few have hit 1 million views, so it seems like we are onto something. .. My three [kids] have gotten a lot closer. They definitely have their moments of testing me and each other, but their behavior has been surprisingly positive. I think this will be beneficial for them down the line. Иако стана популарен на социјалните мрежи благодарение на смислата за хумор, неговиот живот беше обележан со трагедија. Имено, во 2013. година, сопругот на Ролон, Тим Мерел починал во сон. Во тоа време, Ејвери бил новороденче, а сурогат мајката била во 11-та недела од бременоста со ќерките Лила и Лондон. Ролон стравувал дека нема да може да воспитува три деца без поддршка од неговиот партнер.

SIX YEARS: It’s been 6. Man, this anniversary has been quite rough. Currently in Mexico at a work conference at the most gorgeous resort with best views, but still managed to have a good cry in the shower this morning. I’ve got to get it together so I can be “on”. Because I’m here, as tradition we don’t get to decorate a Christmas Tree, eat delicious food, and play great music in your honor. The way we did the last time we saw each other. But I will do something special. – – I know the reason this feels tough is simply because of the kids. At 6 and 5 they are more fun than ever. They are little people with their very own distinct personalities. They are playing soccer, making friends, and telling stories! The biggest touch point for me currently is when we play UNO as a family. We are now a family that plays family games. This. This is what gets me. Because I know how much you would’ve loved a seat at the table. You would be amazed at how good they’ve become at it. So competitive. Whenever I find myself welling up, I rub Avery’s big ears. Because they’re your ears. This always makes me smile. This makes me feel better. This is my way of saying hello. – . .Today during a break, I will gather with a few friends here and decorate a tree along the beach. For you. For us. “Мојот сопруг и јас бевме одлична екипа. Не можев да замислам да го сторам тоа без него”, признал Ролон. “Но, кога се разбудив тој ден, кога беше погребот на Тим, помислив:’Ејвори го изгуби само татко му. Што би било ако и мене нешто ми се случи?’. Не сакав да го оставам сам на овој свет. Знаев што треба да направам“.
Веста дека нивното семејство ќе стане побогато од два члена била објавена на погребот, додека тој го одржуваше погребниот говор на неговиот сопруга во црква пред 400 луѓе.
“Тоа беше мојот повик за љубов и молитви. И тие ме поддржуваат оттогаш. Навистина треба цело село за одгледување на децата”, рекол Ролон.
